Edmonton Newborn Photographer | Mentoring Sessions

I sometimes get asked about mentoring other photographers, but have never had the time or space to do it. I am going to be moving (YIPEE!!!) into a bigger home with my own dedicated studio space, and so I have decided to try mentoring on a limited basis. I just want to try it, and see if I would be interested in doing large groups in the future. So~ If you have ever wondered what I am doing to my images, both indoor and outdoor, this is for you.
We will go over shooting with studio lights, and shooting outside, you will get a chance to do both with me. I will also go over my photoshopping techniques for both indoor and outdoor images. I think the individual attention will be great, and really is the best way to learn!

The details....
The cost will be $900 US for one day or $1400 US for 2 days.
Weekdays only, it's important to me to have weekends with my family.
This is no holds barred, ask me anything! We will photoshop together, and shoot together with live models. I think it will be great!

I will only be accepting a very limited number of people, as it's hard to work around my family, I can only shoot outdoors from June-September, and have to fit my family vacations and summer fun in there as well! :0)

Aren't babies sweet? I really just love them, and I love photographing newborns. I love to hold them, and get my "baby fix". This little person was such a cutie. At only 7 days old, she decided she had slept enough and was ready to have a look around. I know all these images make it look like she slept, but really she was very awake for most of the session! She has gorgeous parents, and is amazingly beautiful herself, so we got LOTS of wonderful images!

and puppy dog tails! A family of 3 little boys! As soon as I saw these little cuties I was sooo excited to take their pictures! Aren't they all just so handsome? Unfortunately the second wasn't as happy to meet me as I was to meet him, but Mom and Dad were great, and eventually we got some terrific images of him too. Thanks for bringing these handsome boys to me, I had a great time taking pics of them.

My babies have started to arrive! I have a bunch of babies coming in the next few months, I just love newborns, so I'm very excited! This little person actually arrived early, she wasn't supposed to come until next month. She was sooo good, and so much fun to photograph, she just let me play and play. The only thing better than 2 boys is 3! Boys are so much fun, I know -I have 4 of them. Boys are so calm and sweet, they always want to sit quietly and play with their dolls and tea sets... oh wait that's girls! Right -boys are the ones who run screaming through the house, yelling, shouting, whooping (can you think of any other words for making noise? :0) )! I have a quote I'm going to put on my walls someday, it is the definaition of the word boy and it says "BOY- a noise with dirt attatched".
So true!!
These little boys are pretty cute aren't they? I thought they were. Don't worry Roxanne, we did get some cute ones of #2, I just liked this one, so I thought I would share it. I love images that are a little bit fun!

I just love this lady's eyes and she has obviously passed them on the her handsome son! In a little while we'll get to see her new baby, and see if that little person is lucky enough to get her eyes too. I hope that you enjoy your sneak peek, I really like the images of your son, even though he wasn't interested in having his pictures taken, I think we got a few good ones with the belly anyway!

Hey gorgeous lady! I must have the most beautiful clients in the world... Lucky Me!! This lady was a blast to photograph, and we had a lot of fun. I can hardly wait to meet your new little person!

I also need to mention that I have one appointment left on April 15, I might be able to do one the first week of July, and other than those two sessions, I am full until August. I am accepting appointments for August and September. I had a hard time letting this little guy's parents take him away from me. He was just the sweetest, littlest person, and I just know how much his parents love him, so I eventually let them take him! :0) We had quite a long session because I kept thinking of new ways that he would be cute, so we kept taking more and more images. It made it hard to narrow the crop down to choose which I would show on my blog. These are the winners so far, but there are so many more, I'm not sure what will be my favorite by the time I'm done editing them all. I just chose a few so that the mommy would stop logging in and being disappointed that their sneak peak wasn't up yet. ( How many times have you checked today Megan? :0) ) I hope you love these, and can live until the rest are ready for you to see!

I keep getting the most gorgeous women in to photograph for maternity! Lucky me! I was happy to meet these two as they prepare to welcome their new person into the world. These two saw my images at Uc Baby and called to book a session. I don't think I mentioned before that I have a display at UC Baby. If you are expecting and have never heard of UC Baby, you should definitely check them out. They provide the most amazing 3D ultrasounds of your baby. It's the ultimate in sneak peeks! I have never posted something like this in my blog before, I generally save this for images only, but... this is funny! I very rarely do more than snicker once and then delete all the funny things my friends and relatives email me. This one I actually forwarded and now I am posting here. Enjoy it all you moms out there!!!

THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES

Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and
3 kids each for six weeks.

Each kid will play
two sports
and either take music
or dance classes.

There is no fast food.

Each man must
take care of his 3 kids;
keep his assigned house clean,
correct all homework,
and complete science projects ,
cook, do laundry,
and pay a list of 'pretend' bills
with not enough money.

In addition, each man
will have to budget in money
for groceries each week.

Each man
must remember the birthdays
of all their friends and relatives ,
and send cards out
on time--no emailing.

Each man must also
take each child to a doctor's appointment ,
a dentist appointment
and a haircut appointment

He must make
one unscheduled and inconvenient
visit per child
to the Urgent Care.

He must also
make cookies or cupcakes
for a social function.

Each man will be responsible for
decorating his own assigned house,
planting flowers outside
and keeping it presentable
at all times.

The men will only
have access to television
when the kids are asleep
and all chores are done.

The men must
shave their legs,
wear makeup daily,
adorn himself with jewellery,
wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes,
keep fingernails polished
and eyebrows groomed

During one of the six weeks,
the men will have to endure severe abdominal cramps, back aches,
and have extreme, unexplained mood swings but never once complain or
slow down from other duties.

They must attend
weekly school meetings,
church, and find time
at least once to spend the afternoon
at the park or a similar setting.

They will need to
read a book to the kids
each night and in the morning,
feed them, dress them,
brush their teeth and
comb their hair by 7:00 am.

A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father will be required to know all of the following information:
each child's birthday,
height, weight,
shoe size, clothes size
and doctor's name.
Also the child's weight at birth,
length, time of birth,
and length of labour,
each child's favourite color,
middle name,
favourite snack,
favourite song,
favourite drink,
favourite toy,
biggest fear and
what they want to be when they grow up.

The kids vote them off the island
based on performance.
The last man wins only if...
he still has enough energy
to be intimate with his spouse
at a moment's notice.

If the last man does win,
he can play the game over and over
and over again for the next 18-25 years
eventually earning the right
To be called Mother!

This little guy was by far the funniest baby I have ever met, let alone photographed! He laughed NON STOP for about the first 15 minutes of our session. I'm not sure what exactly he thought was so funny, but I have NEVER seen a baby laugh like that before! What a sweetie, it was just fun to photograph him! :-)

This is one of the most beautiful people I have met both inside and out. She is such a sweet girl, and it was so much fun to take her pictures! A few years ago I did her wedding pictures, and it was fun to see her again for this special time in her life. I am really looking forward to meeting your baby in just a few short months. I should start out by saying that I LOVE LOVE LOVE newborn photography! It is honestly one of my very favorite aspects of photography... I have a lot of reasons for this, but one of them is that photographing newborns allows me to get my "baby fix", so that my husband and I don't have another child, (we have four boys).
This little person has completely wrecked that for me! He's not only one of the sweetest little people I have ever met, but he also looks JUST like my last child! As soon as I was done photographing him, I showed a picture to my husband, and he couldn't believe how much he looked like our littlest boy! (Can I just say he is one of the handsomest newborns ever! LOL) This little guy has given my husband and I a serious case of Baby Hunger! I may have to switch professions! (Just Kidding, still love newborns! :) ) Did I mention he was only three days old?!! Oh my goodness my arms are empty....! :0)

I love maternity images! To me there is something just absolutely gorgeous about a woman who is expecting (except for me, I have never been a pretty pregnant woman! :) ). I asked this little one's Mom to keep him awake on the drive to see me if possible, she did a great job, and so we were lucky enough to get some sweet sleeping images. (Our session was during the time of day that he is most awake!) We have lots of wide awake images as well, but like I always say, it is much easier to wake the baby up than it is to put them to sleep! They always look so sweet when they are sleeping. Even my own big boys look like angels when they are out for the night! :)

Why won't you sleep cute little girl? Mom and Dad tried and tried to help this cute little girl fall asleep, but she just wasn't going for it. Didn't she know all the fun things I had planned for when she fell asleep? He he, maybe she just didn't want to hang from a branch in a cute little bag! :) Shocking I know! LOL :)
Seriously though, this may have been the best newborn I have ever photographed. She did not cry, not even one time. I don't think that has EVER happened before. She didn't cry, and didn't sleep, she just wanted to know "WHERE'S THE PARTY?!"

I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas, are you looking forward to the new year? I sure am! I really love photography,and the opportunities for learning that it presents. In 2009 I am committed to attending more workshops given by the photography industries' top photographers. I love to learn all the different styles and techniques that are out there, and then use them to tweak and refine my own personal style. There is a lot more to being a professional photographer than buying a good camera, and setting up business. I hope when you view my images, you can see how much effort I have put into learning and perfecting my craft.
I am almost done with my holidays and should start posting more regularly in a couple of weeks.

I just wanted to give a preview of a new type of slideshow I will be offering, they are really nice, and I am very excited about them!
These are some twin that I photographed a couple of weeks ago, they are very sweet! I just love photographing newborns! If you watch the video closely you will see when one of the babies poop on his Dad ( It is the color picture), what is funny , and the slideshow doesn't show, is that the twin peed on his Mom at exactly the same time, she just hadn't noticed yet! Twins are two times the fun, two times the cuteness and two times the pee and poo! (They went a whole lot! :)) enjoy guys!

It is always great to have the chance to be the photographer for both the maternity images and the newborn baby photographs. We decorated our house last night for Christmas, it is starting to feel like the holidays. I can hardly wait, my kids are so funny, and so excited for Christmas to come! :)
This is my last official session of the year. Christmas is such a busy time, and I will be grateful to have a bit of time off to concentrate on Christmas and making it magical for my children.

Since I have seen this little cutie! I took pictures of "A" when she was just brand new, and here she is one year later. It is always so fun to see how the babies have changed! She is much more mobile now than she was then, and really just wanted to have a look around, why oh why did people keep putting her in front of the flashing light?! What a perfect baby! I have never had a baby who fussed less during photos. This little one is so sweet, I just loved her. You might remember her gorgeous mom from her maternity shoot a while ago. It was so great to meet her new little one. Have I mentioned that I LOVE babies! Photographing newborns is great because I get to have my baby fix, without having another one of my own! :) I swear you get a rush of endorphins when you sniff a newborn's neck. (or am I the only one?)
We had a bit of a challenge getting the hanging baby image, but the mom hung in there like trooper and that little girl just slept away. Thanks so much guys, we got some wonderful images.

Here are just a few teasers from the holiday sessions that I had last week. It was a long day for me, but lots of fun and I am really happy with the images we got from everyone's sessions. I had a variety of people come. Some were just their children, some were family, some were even cousins. I had one beautiful tween all by herself, and that was a lot of fun! I offered specials just for the event and even had some packages. It was a great day, and I got some really great images! I will post more images tomorrow or later today.

Here's another little cutie with BIG brown eyes! She was so easy to take pictures of. She just looked at me with those big brown eyes, and looked adorable every time! :) Not a lot of smiles from this one, but plenty of sweet images!

I am planning on having a holiday mini session soon, please check back with my blog for details in the near future or give me a call at 780-998-3842. This will be the back drop I will be using. I love it! It's my new favorite. This girl just looks gorgeous on it. How pretty is she?!!! These will be fun, short sessions designed to give you a few images to use as Christmas presents or for christmas cards. You will also be able to choose to use the traditional white background. I think this may have been the last day of fall. The leaves are mostly bare now, and it's getting pretty cold. I hope it last for just a couple more days, I have one more outside shoot this year! This was such a beautiful spot that I took my family down there to take pictures too! Hope you love them Judy!

Another beautiful fall day, and another beautiful girl. I used to have an image on my website of a little girl hanging upside down, did you see it? Well this is her about a year later. I love the colors in these images, wow is fall ever a nice time to catch some beautiful tones! I have photographed this little girl every year for the last several years, she's such a cutie. I could tell when I was taking the pictures that they were going to be great because of how good "A" was being. Looks like your going to need wallpaper of your daughter Kristi! Good luck choosing!:)

Two year olds are such fun!!! This little girl was BUSY! I think we got some great images out of it, she was a trooper! She just wanted to be warm and to be allowed to explore, not have someone with a camera pointed at her all the time. It was a cold morning, but she hung in there!

Hi, I'm having an unadvertised outdoor mini session day today (Saturday), and one of my clients had to cancel due to her husband going away for work unexpectedly. So, I have one spot only open today at 4:30. This is a mini session, so it is $50 for 20 minutes of picture taking time. Aren't these two babies amazing? They are identical twin girls, sooo sweet! One was just 5 pounds and the other was 6.5 pounds. They were so good!
Sorry I haven't posted as much as I intended, I do have a bunch of images I would like to post but I have been crazy busy lately, and I am still trying to catch up.
I am in a hotel room in the states right now, working on my laptop. I have just finished receiving training from two amazing photographers. They were incredible, both of them have won awards and traveled to speak and teach all over the world. I was so lucky and blessed to be one of four people to receive two days FULL of mentoring by them. What an experience. I have been able to be trained by some pretty talented, world famous photographers over the last several years, and these two were just as giving and talented as the others. I love growing my photography skills and knowledge, and being able to offer you, my clients all that I have learned. Photography is such an amazing and consuming passion, and I am grateful for it in my life.

I love maternity photography! I absolutely love showing woman how beautiful they are when they are expecting a new baby. (Not that you needed any help Jennifer!) Sometimes it's hard to feel beautiful when your tummy is much larger than it has ever been before, but pregnant woman really are gorgeous!

Isn't this little guy a cutie? He has some pretty terrific eyes, and you'd better watch out when he gets big Jen! I love how little kids concentrate sooo hard on what they are doing. To entertain this little guy all we had to do was ask him to look at the grass, or look for a bug. He was a snap!
